Residential Maintenance
Whether it’s a leaky tap or a noisy toilet, our team can resolve the issue quickly and cost effectively to match your budget.
In the world of plumbing maintenance, experience is everything! A lot of the time, our team are confronted with old, outdated systems that need urgent repair or replacement. Knowing which is the most cost-effective solution, only comes through extensive technical experience, knowledge of the latest products and alternative work arounds. We work closely with the customer to come up with a solution that matches the situation and their budget-we avoid the dreaded ‘upselling’ (ala, do you want chips with that?).
Hot Water Systems (Gas or Electric)
We can install hot water systems any size in any configuration. Our previous work has ranged from small demand gas systems, large electric systems, to large banks of commercial systems.
There are quite a range of hot water systems from a wide range of manufacturers, varying in size (both physical dimensions and capacity in litres) and methods of heating, so it is important that customer is fully aware of all the options to meet their needs. These systems includes the items below.
- Electric
- Gas
- Heat pump
- Zip heaters
- Solar
- Instant gas hot water

CJW Plumbing and Gas can walk you through the options available, help select the solution that suits your business or family situation and provide a competitive quote to match your budget. In addition, we recommend fitting a Thermostatic Mixing Valve (TMV) as part of any replacement or repair of a hot water system. These are actually compulsory but many older systems do not have one fitted.
TMV’s are designed to automatically adjust the mixing of hot and cold water to achieve a specified output temperature, even when the input temperatures or pressures fluctuate. This operation relies on the valve’s thermostatic element, which expands or contracts in response to changes in water temperature, thus adjusting the mix to maintain consistency. The benefits of installing a TMV includes the items below.
Safety
TMVs are crucial in preventing scalding injuries in homes and public facilities by limiting the maximum water temperature at the point of use. This is especially important where young children and elderly are involved.
Comfort
By delivering water at a constant temperature, TMVs enhance user comfort in showers and baths, making adjustments unnecessary and ensuring a steady, pleasant temperature throughout use.
Energy Efficiency
By optimising the mix of hot and cold water, thermostatic mixing valves help reduce the demand on water heaters, contributing to energy conservation and lower utility bills.

Drainage Works
With so many trees in Brisbane (watch out for umbrella trees!), we have worked on clearing blocked drains, replacing old drains to upgrading stormwater and sewerage as part of renovations.
Drainage is the great unsung, hidden part of plumbing because often it is underground out of sight or under a slab. However, every home and business has it and we have all experienced what happens when it doesn’t work efficiently! Flooding and occasional small lakes of sewerage are not desirable.
We are still finding the occasional clay pipes in some older suburbs which are notorious for tree root blockages and generally need replacing with PVC. But even with PVC there can be issues with blockages, crushing and lack of ‘fall’ which hinder the ability of the stormwater or sewerage drainage to do its job.
With over 20 years of experience, CJW Plumbing and Gas has seen it all and can provide customers with the benefits of having created cost-effective solutions for any situation-whether it be an existing system, renovation, new work or upgrade.
Renovations
We work closely with a very experienced builder and group of quality tradies to regularly produce beautifully finished bathrooms across Brisbane.
In any given year, working with our builder, we are completing at least two bathrooms a week on average across Brisbane. That means that we are part of a team that has a huge range of experiences in redesigning, demolishing, and renovating existing bathrooms (and in some cases kitchens and laundries) using a very experienced team of tradespersons including carpenters, tilers, plasterers, electricians, painters and of course-plumbers.
Some of these renovations have been extremely challenging as they are often in older homes that require a lot of remediation to structures and existing systems such as water and drainage. In addition, we are always coming across, and having to deal safely with, asbestos based products.
For more information on the types of bathrooms we have completed visit MSI Projects on Instagram and Facebook or click on our Projects page for three examples.

Gas Appliances
Not all plumbers are licenced for gas work. We pride ourselves on being able to fix problems with existing systems, install new gas cooktops and stoves, and commercial cookery appliances.
We find that many people still love the flexibility of a gas cooktop combined with an electric oven. Apart from its extensive use of gas in commercial kitchens (we fit cookers, stove tops and ovens), the immediate heat of a gas cooktop is a boon to many budding gourmet home chefs. Our team can retrofit a gas cooktop and plumb in the necessary connections to bottle or mains gas supply.
Once the gas supply is established, other appliances can also be connected such as hot water systems, barbeques and outdoor gas heaters.
Backflow Prevention Valves
Backflow Prevention Valves or more technically correct- Reduced Pressure Zone Device (RPZD), have been in use on commercial properties for some time and now starting to be required on some residential properties.
Backflow has the potential to occur when the water pressure in your property is higher than the mains water supply. It creates a vacuum and causes back siphonage which can contaminate the mains water supply and lead to water-borne diseases.
These valves are used in a commercial setting in such areas as bin washing, fountains, irrigation and certain fire fighting setups. In domestic settings we are seeing increasing requests for these valves in conjunction with the installation of bidets. However, it is important that you consult with our team before you purchase such products, as an RPZD is mandatory in such settings and requires extensive plumbing alterations in some cases to accommodate the valve (which can be expensive) to meet Australian plumbing standards.
RPZDs also require yearly maintenance, testing and certification. Fortunately, our principal is fully accredited, licenced and insured to undertake such work.

I hired Chris to help install my friends dishwasher for her birthday (strange but true), Chris was the 1st to quote & 1st to return my call (the others took until up to 5 days later) He arrived on time, made a fuss about it being my friends birthday and did a great job! I would recommend & trust Chris. Thank you again
